Part-Time Behavioral Health Jail Nurse

General Summary:

The Behavioral Health (BH) Jail Nurse provides correctional care to inmates at the Boone County Jail with a focus on behavioral health diagnosis and symptom management. This position is critical not only to the functioning of the jail but also the growth and development of the Boone County Jail’s medical, behavioral health, and Medication Assisted Recovery (MAR formally known as MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment)) programs. Nursing actions are directed toward the goals of prevention, assessment, risk reduction, and health status improvement for incarcerated individuals, their families, and the justice involved population based on professional nursing and behavioral health best practices, including a large focus on MAR for opioid and alcohol use disorder. Nursing activities include, but are not limited to, systematic analysis of health data, care plan development, health education and advocacy, induction and continuation of MAR medications, withdrawal management, coalition building, and collaborating with community partners to promote successful re-entry planning. Nights, weekends, and on call are a part of the duties of this position.

This nurse will coordinate with the Community Outreach, Advocacy and Recovery (COAR) team to develop comprehensive discharge plans with the goals of reducing future overdoses and recidivism with inmates with a behavioral health diagnosis. The nurse will be an active participant of the Boone County Behavioral Health Task Force.
